Words of the first managing Director

I am a 47 years Tanzanian consultant surgeon and senior University lecturer. I was brought up by poor peasant farmers in Pare mountains, southern Kilimanjaro in a village nearby a natural forest. My parents though not educated were aware of the importance of education. It was from their awareness that made to realize the need for education and by merit of the socialist government which took over from the British colonialist myself and all my 8 young brothers and sisters managed to attend school ranging from minimum of Advanced level secondary school and Diploma college education. to doctorate or equivalent degrees. Thanks to the motivation and support we received from the catholic church and the motivation we gave each other without forgetting the enormous support from our teachers from all levels. The three years of my studies in Germany from 1994 to 1997 and my work as expatriate Surgeon in the islands of Seychelles from 1997 to 1999 gave me a living international exposure which acculturated in me the importance of hard working and improving quality of care

My experience in Health sector in Tanzania ranges right from my life in the village where I was amazed to have received great knowledge about tradition herbs inherited from our forefathers through remnants of the free British health care system to up to-date mixture of private and government medical health care provision system. My work in the church community based health care programme after my graduation from the medical college, my work in the government national hospital Muhimbili and Universty teaching hospital as well as my work in the private hospital and currently private Medical University all these have inspired me to realize the necessity of opening a charitable hospital for the disadvantaged majority of the people living in the suburbs of Dar es Salaam.

Dar es salaam Charitable General Hospital will add to the list of the existing NGO hospitals which will put emphasis on Quality of care, primary health care, continuing education and medical research. It will strengthen the existing relationships with the government hospitals, pre-existing NGO and Private hospitals, medical and Nursing colleges as well as other sectors directly or indirectly related to health. Commitment to affordable good quality of care “with human touch” and preventive disease intervention is our dedication. The hospital shall as well be a centre for international cultural and education cooperation. It will be a neutral institution which is not affiliated to any race, religion or gender. In any given society although there are various programs and activities to eradicate poverty always you wil find at a given time people who lag behind in breaking the vicious cycle of poverty. While efforts are made to empower them to liberate them they should be treated equally for basic life requirement. I therefore humbly request all generous people locally and internationally to help us in form of moral support, professional advice and material support. Each one will receive on time our progress and financial reports and whoever willing may phsically visit us any moment.
